1. Who we are

DatesBack is published by Ruwix Services SRL, a company registered in Romania, [registered address], registration number [company registration number]. You can reach us at [email address].

2. What the site is for

DatesBack is a reference and entertainment site about dates: the people, events, music, films and news of a day, a month or a year, and a world map of every year from 4000 BC to today. It is free, needs no account, and is meant for personal reading and learning. It is not advice of any kind.

3. Accuracy

We work hard to get things right, and we check dates against published sources, but history is full of dates that good sources give differently, and a site with pages for every day of six thousand years will contain errors. Ancient dates are often approximate, and the text says "about" where they are. Dates for Mesopotamia before about 1500 BC follow the short chronology, which differs from other counts by decades. Charts, prices, populations and similar figures are the best estimates we found, not official statistics. Do not rely on the site where an error would matter, and tell us if you find one.

4. What you may do

• Read, print and save pages for your own use.
• Link to any page. Every date has its own address and we are glad to be linked.
• Quote short passages with a link to the page they come from.
• Embed the countdown counter offered on pages for future dates, using the code the page gives you, on any site that does not break section 5.
• Use the pages in a classroom.

5. What you may not do

• Copy the site's texts, lists, year write-ups, maps or pictures in bulk, republish them, or build a product or dataset from them without our written permission.
• Scrape or crawl the site in a way that burdens it. Search engines and ordinary browsing are welcome; scripts that fetch thousands of pages an hour are not.
• Frame the site, or embed it, in a way that hides that the content is ours or that surrounds it with content that is unlawful, misleading or hateful.
• Interfere with the site, its servers or the services it uses, or try to get around any limit we set.
• Use the site in breach of any law that applies to you.

6. Ownership

The texts, year write-ups, lists, the world map with its border snapshots and labels, the illustrations of the years, the logos and the design of DatesBack belong to Ruwix Services SRL and are protected by copyright and related rights. Content that belongs to others stays theirs: the videos played in the music panel are YouTube's and their owners', the film and music titles belong to their rights holders, and the links to Wikipedia and other sites lead to work under those sites' own licences. Nothing on the site gives you any right in any of it beyond what section 4 allows.

7. Advertising and third parties

The site carries advertising served by Google AdSense and, at times, other networks, and it links to and embeds services run by others. We do not choose the individual ads, we are not a party to anything you buy from an advertiser, and we are not responsible for the content or practices of any site we link to. What these services do with data is described in our privacy policy.

8. No warranty

The site is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not promise that it is complete, accurate, uninterrupted or free of errors, or that it fits any particular purpose. We may change, suspend or remove any part of it at any time, and we may retire the site altogether.

9. Limits on our liability

To the extent the law allows, Ruwix Services SRL is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the site, relying on its content, or being unable to use it, including indirect loss and lost profit. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not let us limit, and nothing in them takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws of Romania, the European Union or the country you live in.

10. Changes

We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and the new terms apply from the moment they are published. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept it.

11. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Romania. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of your own country, and you can use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform. Before any of that, write to us; most problems are a mail away.
