The World in 1124 BC the map has looked like this since 1164 BC

Ramesses III is dead, killed in a harem plot after 31 years, and Egypt passes to a run of short-lived kings called Ramesses. Assyria and Babylon are both weak, and the power of the moment is Elam under Shutruk-Nakhunte, who is about to sweep into Babylonia, end the Kassite dynasty and haul the statue of Marduk and the stele of Hammurabi off to Susa. On the map, though, Elam's blue is gone this year: the map from here follows the Elamites as raiders coming out of the hills rather than as a settled colour, and the lowland around Susa is left unmarked. The Phrygians hold Anatolia, the Philistines the coast, and the Greek world is in its dark age of villages and iron. The Shang kings still rule from Anyang, the Indo-Aryans from the Punjab, and the Olmecs from San Lorenzo. Nobody on the map is expanding.

On the map Elam's blue is gone this year. The Elamite kings at Susa are about to have their most famous decade, raiding Babylon and carrying off Marduk, but the map shows the lowland east of the Tigris without a colour from here on.

  • ๐Ÿ‘‘1184 BC Shutruk-Nakhunte becomes king of Elam and builds up his strength for a strike at Babylonia.
  • ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ1164 BC Elam's blue leaves the map, and the land east of the Tigris shows no colour.
