The World in 1912 the year China stopped having emperors

The Titanic carried 20 lifeboats for more than 2,200 people on board, room for about half of them. The rules set the number of boats by the size of the ship, not by how many passengers it held.

Life back then

Nobody went out without a hat. Men wore a derby in winter and a straw boater in summer, women pinned wide hats in place with long steel pins, and a bare head looked careless. Under her dress a woman wore a corset with a long straight front that pushed her into an S shape. Skirts came to the ankle, and the fashionable hobble skirt was so narrow at the bottom that a woman could only take small steps. Most clothes were sewn at home or by a local dressmaker, then mended rather than thrown away.
