By late 2023 about 100 million people were using ChatGPT every week. That is more than the whole population of Germany.
Life back then

AI chatbots went from novelty to homework helper in a single year, and fake AI photos, like the pope in a puffy white coat, fooled millions. Twitter was renamed X, and a rival app called Threads signed up 100 million people in five days. Moviegoers dressed in pink for Barbenheimer double features. Liverpool hosted the Eurovision Song Contest for Ukraine, which had won the year before but could not stage the show during the war.
