Andy Murray's Wimbledon win in July ended a 77-year wait. The last British man to take the title, Fred Perry, won it in 1936, before the Second World War.

Life back then

Vine kept videos to six seconds, and Snapchat made photos vanish. Whole TV seasons started landing online in one go, so binge-watching became a normal weekend plan. Phone cameras were finally good enough that people turned them on themselves, and Oxford Dictionaries picked selfie as its word of the year.
