Google paid 1.65 billion dollars for YouTube, a site not even two years old. That works out to more than 2 million dollars for every day YouTube had existed.

Life back then

Two new game consoles landed a week apart. Sony's PlayStation 3 cost $599, while the cheaper Wii asked families to stand up and swing the controller like a tennis racket. Camera phones were everywhere, though the pictures came out small and blurry. Facebook opened to everyone in September, but most people still logged in to MySpace.
