Wi-Fi was new enough that coffee shops put a sign in the window. People burned photos and songs onto CDs to pass them around, and phones with cameras were just arriving. A small program built in Estonia called Skype let strangers talk across the world for free. Finding Nemo filled theaters, and paying 99 cents for one song suddenly felt smarter than buying a whole CD.
