The World in 1995 the year the world logged on

Only about 1 in every 350 people on Earth used the internet in 1995. In a packed 60,000-seat stadium, that would be fewer than 200 fans.

Life back then

Free AOL disks kept arriving in the mail, offering a few hours online if you were willing to tie up the phone line. CDs had taken over from cassettes, and video shops were packed on Friday nights. In Britain, Blur and Oasis put out singles on the same day in August and the chart race made the evening news. In America people queued at midnight to buy Windows 95, and a new site called Amazon started selling books out of a garage near Seattle.
