The World in 1993 the year the web went free

By the end of 1993 the whole world had only about 600 websites. Most high schools have more students than the planet had websites.

Life back then

Most people had never heard the word internet said out loud. Music came on cassettes and CDs, and movies came home from the video shop on VHS. On January 1 the twelve countries of the European Community dropped their border checks on goods, so a truck could drive from Portugal to Denmark without stopping. A free program called Mosaic came out this year and showed web pages with pictures, so the web finally started to make sense to regular people.
