The Wright brothers' first flight in 1903 covered 120 feet. The passenger cabin of the new Boeing 747 is longer than that, so the whole of the first flight would have fit inside the plane.
Life back then

Cars ran on leaded gas and big cities sat under brown smog for much of the summer. Drink cans opened with a pull tab that came away in your hand, and people dropped them wherever they finished, which is part of why the first Earth Day drew such crowds. Milk still arrived in bottles on some doorsteps. School worksheets came off a hand cranked mimeograph in purple ink, damp and smelling of solvent. Friday nights meant the drive-in.
