April 15 is a Monday again in 1957.
ENIAC weighed about 30 tons, roughly as much as twenty family cars, and filled a room you could play basketball in. It could add five thousand numbers in a second, which no machine had ever done before.
Life back then

Car dealers had new models to sell for the first time since 1942, and buyers signed waiting lists months long. The same went for refrigerators, washing machines and tires. In Britain it went the other way, and bread went on ration in July, something that had not happened even at the worst of the war. New parents bought a cheap paperback by a doctor named Benjamin Spock, Baby and Child Care, which told them to trust their own judgement. Millions of veterans took government tuition money and enrolled in college.
