The World in 1935 the year beer came in a can

A Monopoly set cost $2 in a year when about one American worker in five had no job. Families spent the evening buying paper hotels while the rent on the real house went unpaid.

Life back then

Evenings at home were long, and games filled them. Parker Brothers put Monopoly on sale, and families spent hours buying paper property in the middle of a depression. Flour came in printed cotton sacks that mothers cut up and sewed into dresses and shirts. Beer arrived in cans for the first time, punched open with a pointed tool called a church key. In Britain a new firm called Penguin started selling novels for sixpence each, about the price of a packet of cigarettes, off the counter of the local chain store.

• ⚔️Oct 3 Italian forces invade Ethiopia. Its emperor asks the League of Nations for help and gets very little.
